“Support the troops” - Homeless Vet Problem

It’s appalling to see that so many veterans are homeless and/or suffering from mental disease without any support whatsoever from the same federal government that exploits them and ships them off to war. These men and women fight for America’s safety, freedom, and an honor that few Americans would ever understand. It is unbelievable how quickly our politicians and “supporters” forget the very people that they exploit in order to push political agendas and war. The problem is obvious, it is a glaring reflection on societal greed and media sensationalism.
The “I’ve got mine” crowd could care less about the fate of the Americans at the bottom of the food chain who are struggling to get a warm meal and survive another day. You want to know why they don’t give a damn? Because we allow them to get away with spouting the rhetoric but when the sky comes falling on our heads, we look the other way and blame no one. For once, we should assign responsibility to those that created the problem to begin with. Americans should put the burden on the fools who have impoverished further those who were already poor and pushed death upon those who simply wanted to “be all they could be”.

Every candidate, including Senator John McCain, has tried to roll with the “change” buzz word. If by “change” we mean turning gay, then John McCain might have the leg up on this one. I guess Senator McCain’s best defense against that argument is that he loves Bush, go figure.

I watched the state of the union address and I’m sorry to say that I was disappointed by the speech that the President gave. He seemed intent on hammering his partisan points home and rallying the Republican base. It may have been good from a political standpoint for Republicans, but it was a disaster in my opinion for the nation.
Congress is woefully divided and a unity message might have been more helpful. Although politics in America is highly polarized, so it could be that a Unity speech would have gone on def ears. Below is a comic that illustrates the point of view of people who aren’t in President Bush’s ever-shrinking circle.

Lately, I’ve seen a lot of mocking of Jesus and religion and I can’t help but wonder if this is a backlash against evangelists who have treated atheists like animals over the years. Picked this up off of reddit, not sure who this site belongs to: “Amazing, Threat Alert Jesus”
The atheist community is on a tear these days and they won’t stop until they’ve obliterated the “Christian” nation and other religious groups who threaten their liberties and way of life. Can we chalk this up as a survival and defense mechanism?
